Here are the steps and tactics we use for mailing Linux CDs to you @ FLCD. Almost all the pictures contain a CD to help you to understand the proportions.

1. Take a big envelope, I don`t know the exact size of it but it is a little bit bigger than a Letter size paper.
   
   

2. Cut the envelope in two @ the middle of the long corner. (Fold the envelope along the long border in half to get an exact cut line.)
   
   
3. A CD sleeve is excellent but if you cannot find one (or in our case, a lot!) u can use a paper to wrap around the CD.
4. Put the CD in the sleeve.
   
   
5. Close the envelope (both edges!) and scotch it. (In the picture on side is self adhesive)
   
   
6. Put the destination address, return address, stamp (WE NEED STAMPS! PLEASE CONTRIBUTE! ) and mail it!

The reason we use a biggy envelope and cut in half is that first of all it is cheaper, (one envelope -> two envelopes) and when you split it in half you have two 37 cent delivery (at the time of this writing) envelopes (that means it`s is cheaper :P).

If you decide one day to be a delivery guy for FLCD, please don`t forget to get your office supplies from where you work for free if you can *evil grin*

This morning one of my applications gone mad and filled up the transaction log file of my database. (230+ GB to be more precise) I am not a DBA, and not much used MSSQL before. So when I saw the log file there, i thought it must be the logs of what happened in the database in the past X amount of time. Of course to be back in business as soon as possible, I deleted this file! Mistake! DO NOT DELETE YOUR TRANSACTION LOG FILE! 😛 Well just in case you did the same thing, read this article. I`m a VA resident, I commute to DC like the half of DC daytime people. Today I drove.

I also renewed my registration Nov 29th, online. Since the renewal was online, DMV couldn`t provide me my new stickers right away. Instead they offered a proof of registration valis until Dec 7th. So my tags still show old registration expiration date, but I have the proof of registration on my dashboard.

I`m in front of my office building. I see the parking enforcement officer walking to my car. I`m cool and relaxed. I`m legal. But DC parking enforcement is legal also, it`s a legal mafia. The metermaid reads the proof of registration, and starts writing the ticket. I talk to him:

– You read that this is legal why do you write a ticket?

– It`s too late…

$100.00 ticket… He sees, he confirms with me, and still writes the ticket.

Now Emre needs to spend time to deny this ticket, take a picture of the situation, write a letter, mail it, expect DC to reply it and make a decision… And the morning headache of course…
