Jerker desk rules!

So I finally got my Jerker desk from IKEA this weekend. Mounting and installation was very easy. Thanks to someone! ; ) The desk is very sturdy and strong. I additionally bought two case mounting shelves one for the right and one for the left. I also bought another rotating shelf unit but it looks like I don`t need it for now. I have enought room for everything.

My initial thoughts before seeing the desk, was that it had this “industrial look” loaded with metal stands, but especially the black/silver color combination actually looks really nice. The way that you can customize the table is awesome. It can easily take two monitors and two, three even four cases below with the mounting shelves. The desk is very well balanced and never shakes left and right. (I hate those shaking desks!)

I will have some more pics as soon as I settle down a bit more.

Sony got caught pants down! :)

Sony installs rootkit on its clients computers! Rootkit is used to cloak the process that prevents copying the music CD that the client wants to play in his(her) PC. On top of it, if the client wants to remove this piece of code, it breaks the system!

Buy a CD from Sony, they OWN you!

Much more info here and here

The record companies lost the game by not following the technological advancements… Now we, customers must pay the price for that… Nothing happens to the big players… Fuck that shit!

Voicemail delay…

I miss my calls most of the time because it quickly drops to my voicemail before even picking it up. So I wanted my phone to ring longer before going to the voicemail. I made some research and found this site. Although it was for another cell phone provider, it worked for me too. (T-Mobile)

– First, dial *#61# Get the number that returns you. I believe this is the number where the phone is forwarded for voicemails. You can also see the time it takes to forward the call to your voicemail. (Mine was 15 secs)
– Take a note of the number (in my case it was something like +1805xxxxx43)

– Type **61*zzzzzzzz*11*nn# (where zzzzzzzzz is the number that you just took a note of and nn is the number of seconds you want) and dial. (For ex: **61*+1805xxxxx43*11*20# in my case: 20 secs wait and forward to +1805xxxxx43)

– You are done! You can check the status by dialilng *#61# again : )

Pick your emerge!

I use amarok to play my music on my gentoo system. My only problem was that at the time of this blog entry gentoo had version 1.2.x in the “stable” and each time I was making an emerge world I had to “downgrade” my “unstable” version 1.3.x. That was not fun at all… ; )

So I found this excellent script called pick your emerge. It lets you choose your world packages dynamically. I highly recommend all gentoo users to use this script. (I`m not responsible if you omit the required packages ; ) )

Here is an example output:

testsec ~ # ./pye world
One moment...

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

You can now enter the numbers of packages you want to emerge/unmerge/exclude.

             You have the following possibilities:

             * you can simply enter the numbers comma-separated, e.g. 1,3,5,6,8
             * you can also specify ranges: 2,4-7,9,11-16
             * "a" or "all" merges all packages in the list
             * "!" excludes the specified packages (and merges the rest): !4,6-8,13
             * "x" excludes _and_ masks them in /etc/portage/package.mask or ~/.pye/pye.mask
             * "q" quits pye

Another weekend in New York City

This weekend I was in NYC. (Like last weekend :P) This time we were there with calaz, oktay and serkan. Unfortunately I had to do some maintenance work friday night that`s why we could only leave Saturday morning.

We got there Saturday midday and left NYC around 8 PM sunday. We did some bar hopping, late night lounge chilling, central park visiting, etc… I also met a lot of people, mainly Can`s friends and their friends, and their friends, etc… : ) We had fun, but the traffic was not good on the way back. Can was snoring half way 😛 We came back home to DC around 1 AM in the morning.

We took thousands of pics. I`ll put some of them on my blog. But later when I have time. 😛
